Over The Future

Released on 2013 Nov. 20th, included in the BD "LIVE - LEGEND I, D, Z, APOCALYPSE -",
recorded on 2012 Dec. 20th at Legend "D" concert (performed only once then).
Lyric: Sumiyo MUTSUMI / Music: SAEKI Takashi

The original was sung by Karen Girl's (可憐Girl's) in 2008. Miss SUZUKA was its member.

Over The Future

It's coming a lot, an invincible power. It's really a good feeling.
Absolute cute! So we aren't defeated. Let's go to tomorrow!

Yeah! Absolute! Daring!
Yeah! Maximum! Daring!

Casting off the yesterdays when I was just waiting around,
I want to get the today that I can anticipate.

Just touching each other, I can feel the limiter on your mind.
If it is released, see, yes, change the world!

We'll try to win the heated battles again and again. We'll be the real to the end.
Absolute cute! So we aren't defeated. { The thrills are supreme./ Let's go to tomorrow! }

Courage starts to illuminate the darkness of the world.
The miracle you gave me overflows.
Now that we feel proud of our smiles similar to nobody,
let's get over the future.

Yeah! Absolute! Daring!
Yeah! Maximum! Daring!

Meeting with this kind of difficulties, actually I'm alright.
With my heart beating fast, again I get into it.

Or rather, "what wait for us are not only easy things".
I'm starting to realize this, so I don't lose my way.

Not afraid of getting hurt, I can go anywhere.
Absolute cute! It's our policy. I can even enjoy the pain.

Teardrops are the glitters to search the whereabouts of dreams.
Each emits a different light.
If you keep sorrow in your heart, I will cry together.
The future is in our hands.

Courage starts to illuminate the darkness of the world.
The miracle you gave me overflows.
Now that we feel proud of our smiles similar to nobody,
let's get over the future.

We can try over the future world.

ROMAJI LYRIC AND NOTES ARE BELOW.

[i] About the Story of "Zettai Karen Children"

Because this song is the opening theme of a SF anime, learning its story will help you to understand the lyric. The heroines are three naughty 10 yr. girls with ESP power.

In the story live many espers. Some normal people think them as mere powerful tools, some think them as dangerous and to be banished, and some espers attack such people to liberate themselves. There are also those who wish peaceful co-existence.

The three are the highest rank espers (only three in Japan). Because of their power, they, as government agents, are forced to confront esper criminals. The agency set the ornament-shaped ESP limiters on them that weaken their ESP power and, in their operation, the limiters are released. Since there are some reasons to consider, they don't kill even the atrocious criminals. They grow mentally with their 20 yr. supervisor (as of 2013, they are 14 yr. in the story of the original manga).

The most important point: The esper prophet told that the three, in their twenty, as the leaders of the espers, shall fight the final war against the normal people (this prophecy has been known to the agency from the beginning and is revealed to the three afterward). In the story, the more fundamental the prophesied matter is, the more difficult it is to change. I guess "change the world" and "get over the future" in the lyric refer to the hard try to avoid this catastrophe.

In my interpretation, "we" of this lyric refers to the heroines, and "I" & "you" refer to one of them. Most of "I" may be "we" since the original lyric has only four occurrences of personal pronouns ("anata", "MY", "watashi" and "WE"). If there is anyone that the three think as their comrade, he/she is included in "we" (hence "you").

[ii] About BABYMETAL and "Over The Future"

On Legend "D" concert (this version is called "-Rising Force ver.-"), the first verse & chorus were sung by YUIMETAL & MOAMETAL, the second verse by SU-METAL, and the second chorus & further by the three.

This song is Miss Suzuka's starting point as professional singer. Karen Girl's was formed to sing this song, consisting Ayami MUTO, Yuika SHIMA & Suzuka NAKAMOTO (10-12 yr. in 2008). Miss Yui said she had adored Karen Girl's and was glad to meet Miss Ayami & Miss Suzuka when she joined Sakura Gakuin (rumor say the reason why Miss Yuika didn't join it was the distance between Tokyo and her hometown). Miss Yui likes this song very much. She & Miss Moa danced "Over The Future" as their audition for Sakura Gakuin [video].

Notes

  1. It means her ESP power is filling up. This "kiteru" means getting closer to a certain point, or something being about to happen, or simply having momentum.
  2. "Karen" is used for the cute things or persons that people feel like protecting.
  3. Since the ESP limiter is ornament-shaped and visible from outside, this limiter probably refers to "your" hesitation.
  4. It may be "we can change the world" rather than an imperative.
  5. "Riaru" (= real) probably means "(we are) the real stuff" or "our real selves". "Tsuranuire" (= tsuranuku) means penetrating some object or carrying some attitude through to the end.
  6. The original line is "Suriru ga saikoo." but YUIMETAL & MOAMETAL sang "Ashita e saa ikoo!". Maybe someone had thought the original a little sensational.
  7. Grammatically, "After we feel..." and "If/When we feel..." are possible, but I choose "Now that..." because the next line contains "ima" (= now; let's get over the future now).
  8. Grammatially "Or rather, I'm starting to realize 'what wait for us...'".
  9. Literally "in this hand".
  10. Anyway, it means that "we" believe "we" have enough power to try to change the future world.

  1. Isn't the KITERU in "kanari KITERU" supposed to mean popular? So "pretty cool" or "pretty popular". According to http://maggiesensei.com/2010/09/04/slang-%E3%82%AD%E3%83%86%E3%82%8B-%E3%82%A4%E3%81%A3%E3%81%A1%E3%82%83%E3%81%A3%E3%81%A6%E3%82%8Bkiteru-icchatteru-mini-lesson-126/

    1. As Maggie-sensei and I (in note 1) pointed out, its original meaning is "coming (to a certain point)", and I think this fits the best for this line. Meaning "popular" is a special case of "having momentum" and (only) used when watching TV, browsing a magazine, etc.

  2. It's important to note that the kiteru in the official lyrics is in katakana though. If it were the original meaning, it would be more likely to be in hiragana, but I'm not a native speaker so you're probably a better judge.

    1. It is written in katakana because it means not movement but filling up (of the ESP power). Of cource, there is a possibility it means popularity, but, if the audience in the concert say "kiteru", it probably means "her singing is powerful", "she is in top condition", etc. It means popularity only when there can be found no other things coming (more than popularity).

  3. I think the last line is "we can fly over the future" not "we can try over the future"

    1. It is written as "We can try ..." in the officially published lyrics.
As explained in note [i] above, "we" (= the heroines) must "try" to change the prophesied catastrophic future.

  4. What was spoken in the kamishibai just BEFORE, Over the Future was performed? I heard "Sekando Impakto" and many things on "sekai no idoru", and even "saida" from OTF?

    1. In Legend D, just before this song was another song "White Love", and kamishibai was before that song. I transcribed and translated it in [Prologue for SU-METAL's Birthday Celebration]
