Kimi to Anime ga Mitai - Answer for Animation With You.

  [Hi everyone, it's starting now.]

With you, I wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime.
  [I wanna see so much.]
Being with you and seeing the anime is to get two birds with one stone.
  [I'm lucky.]
With you, I wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime.
  [I wanna see so much.]
Why don't you come to my house?
  [Come on!]

Won't we come to my house soon?
I get tired after walking so much today.
I think you told me before
your TV set has a fairly big screen.

I wanna watch. I wanna watch
you seeing the anime.
I wanna watch. I wanna watch
your face in profile.
You don't have to pay attention to me.
Alright. Let's have something to drink!

With you, I wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime.
  [I wanna see soon.]
Being with you and seeing the anime is to get two birds with one stone.
  [I'm lucky.]
With you, I wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime.
  [I wanna see soon.]
Again and again.
  [Once more.]

Many things were scattered in my room.
For you coming, I've put them all in order.
Look at me! I've changed.
[[For you and seeing the anime with you.]]

Let me watch! Let me watch
you seeing the anime.
Don't watch me! Don't watch me!
Your face in profile.
You don't have to pay unusual attention.
Alright. Have a relaxing time!

With you, I wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime.
  [I'm very hungry.]
With you, I can get over that meaninglessly long anime.
  [It continues still more?]
With you, I wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime.
  [I wanna fast-forward.]
By all means.

I won't let you go home and won't return the DVD too.
There is nothing that disturbs us.
After it's over, let's decide which to see next.
Let's talk about our future.
Can you believe in me and the animation?
It is the never interrupted thread.

With you, I wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime.
  [I'm so sleepy.]
Being with you and seeing the anime is to get two birds with one stone.
  [I wanna go home.]
With you, I wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime. Wanna see the anime.
  [It's so annoying.]
By all means.
[No way! No way! No way! No way!]

The animation with you... I wanna see.
The animation with you... I wanna see.

  [Ding.]

ROMAJI LYRIC AND NOTES ARE BELOW.

[i] Is This an Answer Song?

This is a cover of "Animation With You" of Kiba of Akiba (hereafter "KoA"; "kiba" means fang/tusk). They are the "otailish" (= otaku stylish) death pop band from Kyoto. The single CD is so-called split CD including four tunes: "IINE!", "Party @ The BBS" (by KoA), this song and "Doki Doki * Morning" (cover by KoA).

This cover is rather true to the original [original's PV]. The backing tracks are the same. Several words are slightly modified to fit to girls, but it doesn't seem to be a song of a girl inviting her boyfriend because the newly interjected chants (enclosed in single brackets) are the reactions to the main part and apparently girls' reactions. This version is credited as "Answer for Animation With You (by) BABYMETAL featuring Kimi"(= you). Probably it means the newly interjected chants show the answer of "kimi"/"you" to the main part (therefore to the original).

I couldn't hear "Kaeritai" and "Choo uzai" of the last part. I thank "BABYMETAL masters" who told me them on a huge anonymous BBS.

Notes

  1. The phrases enclosed with single blankets [---] & the lines marked with "MY" are sung by both MOAMETAL & YUIMETAL. The lines marked with "M" are sung by MOAMETAL alone, with "Y" by YUIMETAL alone.
  2. KoA's original doesn't contain any [---] but contains [[---]]. On the first line, KoA shouts "Kimi to, kimi to, kimi to..., anime ga mitai." (= with you, with you, with you..., I wanna see the anime). (Added on 2017 Mar. 17.)
  3. "一石二鳥" (isseki nichoo; one stone, two birds) is well-known in Japan. It is actually an English idiom, but I (& probably many Japanese) have thought it is a Chinese idiom because it consists of four kanji.
  4. All "Oide!" "Koi ya!" & "Konai?" mean some "come on". While "oide kudasai" is a polite request, "oide" alone is intimate and somewhat looking down (between friends, it should be used only when the speaker knows the listener likes to come). "Koi (ya)!" is vulgar. "Konai?" is intimate (because not using polite form), but an invitation (because using negative interrogative form).
  5. These two lines are the words of the person being invited. In KoA's version, these are also of the inviting person ("I" and "my" are changed to "you" and "your"). I drop an interjection "hora".
  6. It sounds rather "dainamai" (= dynamite) than "daigamen" (= big screen), but it makes little difference.
  7. In KoA's version, this line is "adokenai, adokenai" (= innocent), and these four lines as a whole mean "I wanna watch the innocent profile face of you that is seeing the anime". But in BABYMETAL's version, it is broken in two.
  8. "Kamawa-nai yo." corresponds to "You don't have to" of the proceeding line, and "Alright." is redundant.
  9. Literally "I dislike (you) to watch (me)". It is clear that she expresses she is ashamed of being watched, but it's very hard to understand what girls really feel when saying this.
  10. Literally and keeping the word order, this line is "If (seeing) with you, meaninglessly long, that piece of work, I can get over".
  11. "Anno" is a contraction of "aru no" (= to be/exist).
  12. This is "I wanna see the anime with you by all means."
  13. "Futari no korekara" means "our future" (e.g. When I'm grown up, I wanna become...) or "our intercourse afterward" (e.g. It's time for us to get more closer).
  14. At first it sounded to me like some salutation, but JUN san on 2014 Oct. 5th pointed out it is probably an onomatopoeia for a bell ringing "chiin". Though I can't hear "n" of "chiin", I too think it is the likeliest word(?) at the end of this song because a bell is rung at the end of Buddhist prayer or it tells time is up. Anonymous san on 2015 Jan. 16th suggested it is rung to pity the guy whose proposal is rejected. (Revised on 2014 Oct. 5 & on 2017 Mar. 17.)

  1. Hello, I am Japanese. I guess that the last word of this song is "chiin".
"chiin" is the sound of a bell ,it rings when finishes prayer of buddist priests.
So we say "chiin" when something finished. Sorry for my bad English

    1. Thank you for your explanation.
Now I too think "chiin" is the most likely word for this position, though I can't hear "n" of "chiin". I have fixed it.

    2. Hi Du Enki, your translation is amazing. The onomatopoeia means "amen" implying "too bad", "bummer" etc., to pity (and also rib) the anime guy for being rejected in this case. (I think know you've already got it all, just to satisfy myself. :p)

    3. I think it is the sound of a CRT TV turning off though

  2. I have a question.

When they say "Mite itai", doesn't it mean "it hurts to see"? since itai is something like being in pain. I'm confused.

    Thanks in advanced.

    1. I am sorry. My romanization was misleading. This "itai" consists of a subsidiary verb "i" (iru) and an auxiliary verb "tai". "--- te iru" roughly matches "be ---ing", "--- tai" roughly matches "want/like to ---". I should have written "mite i-tai" or "mite-i-tai".

It really looks "見て痛い" (it hurts to see), but that sentence is rarely used though semantically correct.

KoA: Kimi to ... anime ga mitai. = With you... I wanna see the animation.
      BM: Minna hajimaru yo.

BM: Sorosoro ouchi ni konai? (fit for girls)
(And 5 or 6 other expressions that are not fit for girls were also changed to the expressions that are fit for girls, but the translation would be the same.)

  4. I want to ask something:

What's the meaning of this partial lyric?

    Togireru koto no nai THREAD
It is the never interrupted thread

What is the "Thread" refers to?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I think the meaning of this "THREAD" comes from "a series of related messages that are written on an Internet message board", and the word refers to the happy time of seeing an anime, talking about future, anime, talking...

  5. THE ENDING OF THE SONG IS IN ENGLISH?!

That's very ignorant of me but rather funny, I had no idea she was singing
"THE ANIMATION WITH YOU... I WANNA SEE.
THE ANIMATION WITH YOU... I WANNA SEE."

    Her voice is amazing. :)

  6. Thank you very much for great job!
I have a little explanation for your NOTE 8:
"Literally "I dislike (you) to watch (me)". It is clear that she expresses she is ashamed of being watched, but it's very hard to understand what girls really feels when saying this."
The girl want to be near the other person and to investigate him on very delicate manner, reflecting his reactions on the anime, she want to understand what the person the guy is. At that moment she is very fine tuned and sensible and can feel bright spectre of different emotions. When he looks at her, she feels to be an object of aggression, because the feelings caused of direct eyes contact are many orders stronger. It has effect like a hammer hit and she must turn herself into defensive mode and thus loses all the plenty of fine feelings.

It is interesting that the person who looks at someone doesn't want to be looked at by the one she looks at.
