[i] About Putchimoni (Petit Moni)

プッチモニ (Putchimoni) was a trio, one of the sub units of Morning Musume. It means "Petite Morning Musume." and is often written as "Petit Moni" (I can't find the official notation). This is its debut song, hit in 1999, released 77 days after "LOVE Machine". After the sister groups of Morning Musume. were formed, the units consisting of members across the sister groups were also formed. Some of these units continued for a few years. Some were formed only for one song. About Morning Musume., see also note [i] of "LOVE Machine".

[ii] About "Koi" and "Ai"

Usually both "恋"(koi) and "愛"(ai) are translated to "love", but there is some difference. "Koi" is used for romantic feelings, used for longing to be close to a person (who is physically or mentally remote). The adjective "koishii" means "to miss (a person)". "Ai" is used for dearness, used for cherishing a person, wishing a person happy. For the love to family, neighbors, nation, only "ai" is used. "Ai" needs to know the person well. People may hesitate to use the word "ai" if they can do nothing for the person.

"恋愛"(ren'ai) may be some mixture of "koi" and "ai". The word "ren'ai" isn't used for a child (because she/he seems mentally too young for "ai"), and it is rarely used for a married couple (because they seem to be gradually losing romantic feelings even though they love each other).

Except the married partner, a person that one loves is usually called "恋人" (koibito), and using the word "愛人" (aijin) usually emphasizes the physical relations (sometimes physical only). "Koibito" is also used for such as a hopeful athlete that some team wants to join.

Notes

1. In YUIMETAL version, you hear "wahha hahahaa" four times at the beginning. "Wahhahha" represents laughter, typically, of adult male. After that , I hear "_ pa _ pa ..." (in back beat) but I'm not sure. In the original version, female vocals mimic a trumpet phrase "pappa pararara ..." with the back beat of male vocal "_ ha _ ha", and then "wahha hahahaa" together. (revised on 2014 Oct.30)
2. "Chokotto" (= a little bit) is some element of the sentence on the next line. Supplement the next line with a suitable element. "I've slightly changed my hairstyle." "I want you to notice this small difference." etc.
3. In YUIMETAL version, I hear "foo" instead of "wow", and "uh" is very small. (added on 2014 Oct.30)
4. "Motto" (= more) is attached to the next word on the next line and forms the comparative.
5. "Shigeki no tsuyoi/sukunai" (= strongly/less stimulative) is mainly used for physical things (hot pepper, etc). But "shigeki no tsuyoi" is sometimes used for something adult, not good for kids.
6. Sometimes a girl is glad that the boy she likes very much has a strong passion for her while she is (yet) afraid of the actions that may be driven by that passion. Replace "embarrassing" if you know more suitable word for this situation. "壁ドン" (kabe don = (only) banging on the wall) is the typical of what a girl hopes the boy to do in this situation (* limited to good-looking guys).
7. In the original version, one member sings the former part and another member chants "desu ne" (= soo desu ne) to agree with the former.
8. "The word '---'" is the grammatical object of the sentence: "I've looked up the word 'romance' in a dictionary." "I will write the word 'dream' with you." "When I recall the word 'love'." Literally "ji" means character/letter, but one kanji alone forms a word.
9. The symbol "。" (maru) is the end mark of sentence. It is so pronounced in dictation, and also to emphasize the end of the statement with an air of child's diary.
10. YUIMETAL's version is called "-BIG TIMES CHANGES ver.-". The second verse & the further (below --------) are skipped.
11. "My friend" is probably the same boy as "my darling" above.
12. Whether it is "more honest" or "tell more" is ambiguous. I take the latter: "tell honestly more of what you feel". But you're not aware of whole your mind (Dr. Freud says your super-ego suppresses your id). There is a Japanese expression "motto sunao ni nare!" (= be more honest (to human nature, etc)!).
13. Grammatically "kenkyo na" is attributed to "anata" (= modest you). This form can be understood as "I like you because/when/if you are modest". It often means only "I like your modesty" but sometimes means more. Boys should think carefully what girls mean with this form.
