[i] About "Live at Budokan"

As the name means, "日本武道館" (Nippon Budôkan), or shortly "Budokan", is the hall for Japanese martial arts. Its capacity is about 10,000 people. It was built in 1964 for the judo competition of Tokyo Olympics. It is modeled after "夢殿" (Yumedono) of "法隆寺" (Horyuuji) in Nara, having an octagonal shape.

It has been famous as a concert venue since the Beatles held concerts in 1966. Many overseas & Japanese artists have released the "Live at Budokan", but the acoustics are not good for concert because it was not designed expecting such usage. Though some newer halls of the like size have better acoustics and big artists hold concerts at much bigger venues (such as baseball domes), holding a concert at Budokan is still a big milestone for Japanese young artists & their fans.

[BABMETAL 1ST ALBUM AVAILABLE IN FEBURARY 2014.]

Notes

  1. The music is an arrangement of "Elens dritter Gesang" a.k.a. Schubert's "Ave Maria". The image of some "holy mother" is projected on the backdrop of the stage. There are persons who wear the cone-shaped full-face hood on the stage.
  2. The capacity of Makuhari Messe Event Hall is near 9000, while that of the NHK Hall where Legend "1999" was held is about 3600.
  3. The word on the screen is "Herusaremu" (in kana), but clearly the narrator didn't pronounce "h" (she of course doesn't make such mistakes), and the Japanese call Jerusalem "Erusaremu", so I take it as referring to Jerusalem.
  4. On the screen, "finalist" (in kana) is superposed on "天下一" (tenka-ichi). The latter, however, means "number one under heaven" (i.e. world's best/strongest...) while the former means a person who competes in the final round (= the last part of the competition), so I translate this way.
  5. This "BABYMETAL APOCALYPSE" refers to the binder & booklet #1. It was the passport to the de-facto official fan club "BABYMETAL APOCALYPSE WEB" (pre-opened on 2013/12/10 & closed on 2014/12/31). The club members could choice whatever name they liked (if still unused) in the form of "****-METAL". Only the club members could buy the arena tickets (of both concerts). The passport of 2015 is "THE ONE" tee-shirt.
  6. "Giant Corset Festival" is a literal translation. In the package of the "Live at Budokan", it is given an English title "Corset Festival Extra" (BABYMETAL's first solo concert was titled "Corset Festival").
  7. "Tenka-ichi Budokai" (= Strongest unter the Heavens Martial Arts Tournament) is the fictional tournament of martial artists depicted in "Dragon Ball" (a famous Japanese manga).
  8. "Nihon" & "Nippon" are equally used for Japan. The official reading of Budokan is "Nippon Budôkan", but the narrator read it as "Nihon".
  9. On the screen, "unmei no toki" (= the time of fate) are superposed on the English word "DOOMSDAY".
  10. I translate the text literally, but don't know well what the text means.
  11. The titles "Akai Yoru" (= Red Night) & "Kuroi Yoru" (= Black Night) are the homage to X Japan (a famous heavy metal band). On 1994 Dec. 30th & 31st, they held two concerts at Tokyo Dome, which were titled "Aoi Yoru" (= Blue Night) & "Shiroi Yoru" (= White Night).
I missed "Akai Yoru", "Kuroi Yoru" & their translations in the text and fixed them on 2015 Feb. 15th.
